Good acoustics in a café or restaurant means that the space is not suffering from noise or reverberation. Good acoustics improve speech intelligibility. It will allow your visitors to hear their conversations and prevent them to speak louder and louder. Find out more about our Acoustic Solutions for Leisure.
Organic is a sound-absorbing material. Sound waves penetrate the open wood-fibre structure and are partially absorbed there. A special paint coating ensures that the structure remains open to sound on the visible side as well. The degree of sound absorption further depends on the fibre length (1 or 2 mm), the thickness of the panel and any mineral wool or air cavity behind the panel. The pitch or frequency of the sound plays a role here. High frequencies are absorbed well provided the finish is sufficiently open, so the panels should not be painted. A thicker package structure is required in order to also absorb lower frequencies, with Organic having mineral wool on the back and/or an air cavity.
The advantage of Organic sound-absorbing panels is that they can be used on both ceilings and walls. Fully continuous surfaces can be covered or islands or compartments created. Specifically, sound absorption material is needed on walls when sound absorption on ceilings is limited or to reduce annoying reflections between parallel walls.
Sound absorption is expressed as a coefficient with a minimum of 0 and a maximum of 1. The sound absorption coefficient is also frequency dependent and is often expressed in the six octave bands of 125, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,000 and 4,000 Hz. This frequency range contains almost all the pitches found in a human voice, with vowels having the most energy at 125 and 250 Hz (the “humming frequency”) and consonants (“s” and “t”, for example) having more energy in the higher frequency bands of 500 to 4,000 Hz. The choice of sound absorption at certain frequencies depends on the application and any other sound-absorbing materials present in the room.
The tables below show the sound absorption coefficient for different structures for the frequency bands 125 to 4,000 Hz, rounded to the nearest 0.05. Values are also shown that are weighted in a specific way over part of the frequency range: αw (250-4,000 Hz), NRC (250-2,000 Hz) and SAA (250-2,000 Hz).

Sound that falls on Organic panels is reflected less, improving the acoustics in the room. Some examples of applications
Sound that falls on Organic panels is less reflected, which improves the acoustics in the room. Organic can be a good acoustic solution in a variety of applications. Some examples of applications are:
Home
A room in the house can reverberate a lot if it has hard finishing materials such as plaster, glass and laminate, and a layout without upholstered furniture or curtains. There is a tendency to talk loudly to “drown out” the poor acoustics and disturbing sounds, and this is tiring. The installation of Organic sound-absorbing panels will reduce the reverberation in the room and bring more peace.
Education
It is important to be able to hear each other well and to reduce noise in classrooms and other school areas such as canteens and corridors. Making the space partially sound-absorbent improves speech intelligibility and reduces disturbing noise. A sophisticated design of surfaces with Organic sound-absorbing panels and sound-reflecting surfaces ensures an optimal balance between intelligibility, quietness and liveliness.
Healthcare
Peace and good communication are essential in care buildings such as hospitals and nursing homes. Highly reverberant rooms are avoided by using Organic sound-absorbing panels. This way, the care professional can be understood well, “noise” is reduced and privacy improved. Special attention is needed in rooms for elderly people who have impaired hearing and need very muted acoustics.
Business
The acoustics should contribute to both communication and staff concentration in workspaces. A good sound-absorbing ceiling is the best basis for good acoustics, possibly supplemented by sound absorption material on walls. Both are possible with Organic sound-absorbing panels. Acoustic barriers will also be required to limit the propagation of noise in open-plan offices.
Leisure
It can quickly become noisy in places such as restaurants and bars where many people gather. Organic sound absorbing panels are used on both ceilings and walls. The more people per cubic metre, the more square metres of sound absorption material are needed to reduce noise and maintain good intelligibility. Discover how our Acoustic panels can improve your space in our Leisure Solutions.
Sports
Sports facilities need good acoustics to allow team members and instructors to be heard easily and to reduce noise. Organic sound absorbing panels can be used in sports halls to reduce reverberation. This requires a distribution of sound absorption material across the ceiling and (low) wall elements.
